O’s Notes: Japanese American trumpeter Jun Iida was born in St. Louis and raised in Pittsburgh. His tone is rich on “Gooey Butter Cake” paired with Vocalist Aubrey Johnson’s scatting. She adds warm vocals that complement Iida along with guitarist Masami Kuroki, bassist Jonathan Richards and drummer Xavier Lecouturier. Of note are “Evergreen”, the contemporary “Shiki No Uta”, “My Anguish In Solidarity”, “Forgotten Memories”, and peaceful ballads like “Song For Luke “.
