O’s Notes: Trumpeter Alex Norris fronts an organ quartet for Extension Deadline. It is a format he’s wanted to explore for some time and George Colligan is a fine choice manning the Hammond A-100. Rudy Royston plays drums and Gary Thomas plays tenor sax matching wits with Norris on the melodies. Six of the eight songs are Norris originals with “Optimism” written by Colligan and Little B’s Poem by Bobby Hutcherson. The session is packed with energy and the musicians gel. Alex’s patience with the organ format paid off!
