O’s Notes: Saxophonist, composer Jed Levy plays across the jazz ruler and has supported numerous popular jazz artists. Faces and Places reflects on his influences and experiences as a musician over the past 4 decades. His quartet is a polished team with Luis Perdomo (p), Alvester Garnett (d), and Peter Slavov (b). All the music was written and arranged by Levy. They captured our attention from the start with “Email”, and we remained engaged throughout the session. Perdomo shines on “Calcata” & “Coming To Terms”, Garnett stands out trading between Levy and Perdomo on “Twiddle Twaddle”, while Slavov and Garnett anchor “Leading Tone”. Levy’s melodies fit the bill on each encounter without sidestepping his bandmates. “Personable” and “Postscript” are also notable.
