O’s Notes: Stella is a well-traveled actress and singer who now focuses on singing in bands of many configurations. Pianist Neil Angelo Fontano leads her accompaniment on For Billie, her debut recording emanating from The Billie Holiday Project. Daniel Fabricant (b), Vic Wong (g), Riley Baker (d), Clint Baker (t), Johnny Bones (sax), and Robby Elfman (sax, cl) round out a strong band. The music is a combination of swing and classic 1930s jazz all cast with a focus on Holiday and her courageous lyrics that surfaced emotional and political realities at a time when many stayed silent.
