O’s Notes: This big band session could just as easily be titled Brazilian music. Reedman Bob Mintzer brings together seasoned musicians from the East and West coasts along with budding Brazilian guitarist and composer Chico Pinheiro. They play a collection of classics, inspirations and fresh bossa nova courtesy of Pinheiro. As always, the audio quality and assemblage from Manchester Craftsman’s Guild is on point. This one captures the past and embraces new Latin jazz in an energizing performance.
