O’s Notes: Canadian flutist Bill McBirnie reunites with his debut partner Bruce Jones fifteen years after the release of Devisio. Grain of Sand is their latest collaboration with Jones playing guitar, percussion, synths and singing. The duo wrote all of the music and produced a cool set of fourteen songs. Bruce is the primary architect with McBirnie overlaying melodies. The music is mostly bossa nova but incorporates a variety of contemporary genres. “Se Eu Fice Com Voc” (If I Stay With You) has an insatiable groove that is immediately embraceable as a chill song. We also enjoyed the tranquility of “Lembrando Paul Horn” and the peaceful passion of “Com ou Sem Vocé, Meu Amor” (With or Without You, My Love).
