O’s Notes: Sanda grew up in Romania enjoying the music she heard on the streets. She has a storied upbringing that includes serving time in prison during the political unrest in Germany. Eventually she arrived in New York where she blossomed into a star on the Manhattan eclectic jazz scene. She has a marvelous voice and has been recognized for her talent in Europe and the US. Gypsy in a tree features Sanda singing urban gypsy music. It is mostly doinas and horas, love and drinking songs. She is accompanied by Japanese musicians that add yet another worldly element to the mix. The focal point is Sanda’s voice. It is beautiful in any language.
