O’s Notes: This is a CD with a lot of good stuff coming from current and past musicians associated with the CCJA. They came together in the second symposium and workshop at CCJA that culminated with this recording. Eric Gunnison and Greg Gisbert produced separate ensembles, Group Gunn and Group Giz, each with distinct characteristics. We liked mark Clifford’s work on vibes in Group Gunn while Group Giz tended towards more traditional bouncy, blues grooves with additional brass elements. The original music from many different artists keeps this session fresh and engaging.
