O’s Notes: Hank Jones (p) and Frank Wess (sax) are jazz veterans who are bringing us their second collaboration. They pick up where the first one left off, swinging hard on straight-ahead classics. The difference is the addition of strong supporting musicians. Most notable is the young guitarist Ilya Lushtak who takes the lead on melodies and solos throughout the set. He has a mellow bluesy guitar sound that blends well with Hank and Frank. Male vocalist Marion Cowings adds yet another dimension with heart felt vocals that resonate on four duets with Jones highlighted by “Quintessence” and “You Don’t Know What Love Is”. This is a pleaser for old and new jazz fans.
