O’s Notes: The late Canadian American trombonist, bandleader, arranger, and composer Dave Robbins was a major figure on the Vancouver Jazz scene. Happy Faces is a collection of previously unreleased recordings unveiled on Reel to Real. Among the wealth of talent are Fraser MacPherson (t-sax), Chris Gage (p), Dave Quaren (a-sax), and Donnie Clark (t). They vary the tempo from the upbeat title track & “Westcoasting” to the relaxing “Minority”, and swinging “Playa Del Ray”.
