O’s Notes: Vancouver’s Jeremy Wong has a rich baritone voice that he place on ten romantic ballads for his latest release, Hey There. The theme is “near-connections” and “what-ifs” that we’ve all experienced. Wong’s tone is rich and inviting whether he’s singing on “I Don’t Regret A Thing” or scatting as on “Easy To Love”, we enjoyed him. Ardeshir Pourkermati (t-sax), Chris Gestrin (p), John Lee (b), Jesse Cahill (d) and Alvin Brendan (g) form a strong unit behind him with Pourkemati and Gestrin contributing strong solos throughout the set. We hope to hear a lot more from Wong in the coming years.
