O’s Notes: Pianist Aruán Ortiz likes to dance on the edge of modern jazz pushing into free space from time to time. He forms a trio with bassist Eric Revis and drummer Gerald Cleaver to perform 7 new compositions, a collective and two classics on Hidden Voices. We enjoyed “Joyful Noises”, “Caribbean Vortex/Hidden Voices” and “Analytical Symmetry” a piece with dual personalities! Aruán’s music is provocative and intriguing engaging the listener into unseen territory.
