O’s Notes: Tenor saxophonist, Dennis Mitcheltree engages in rich conversations with German pianist and composer Johannes Wallmann for Holding On, their latest collaboration. They play 18 original selections over 72 minutes with Mitcheltree’s warm tones complementing the pronounced strokes of Wallmann’s keyboard. Guest trumpeter Russ Johnson adds brass harmony on three selections notably “Via Valse”. We also were enticed by “Willis”, “Soul Occupant”, and “Pretty Good Life”.
