O’s Notes: Byrd took the stage at the 26th Concord Jazz Festival surrounded by an experienced cast of musicians. The melodies are shared between Charlie’s guitar, Ken Peplowski (cl) and Hendrik Muerkens (harmonica). Jobim’s classics have a soft sunset sound that warms the soul, especially on “Desafinado”. Alan Farnham plays piano including a relaxed solo on “Once I Loved”. Charlie leads the band like an old pro allowing the music to speak making this session good.
