O’s Notes: Veteran jazz bassist Rufus Reid leads Out Front, a core trio with Steve Allee (p) and Duduka Da Fonseca (d). They infuse a series of special guests to add different flavors to a swinging program of mostly original (Reid, Allee) music. “Candango” is an amalgamation of syncopated Brazilian rhythms, the first of several Latin tinged selections. Toninho Horta (g) joins the trio on “Fancisca”, a lovely ballad. It’s just Rufus with Bobby Watson (sax) on “These Foolish Things” and later in a duet with Allee for the gentle breezes of “Summer’s Shadow”. Both are well done. In fact there is much to enjoy among these fourteen selections, a stellar effort!
