O’s Notes: You wouldn’t guess that pianist, producer George Cables is 80 years old by his highly energetic performance on I Hear Echoes. George leads a trio with bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer Jerome Jennings performing freshly arranged classics and a few originals. “Echoes”, the relaxing “Morning Song” & “Blue Nights”, “Like a Lover”, and “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To” with a punctuated solo by Essiet, are notable. These polished musicians deliver a strong outing.
