O’s Notes: The late (12/99) Charles Earland is one of the lesser-known masters of the Hammond B3. But rest assured he was one of the best, especially on the lower registers. He could work the foot pedals like no other! On this, his final studio session, he’s joined by Najee who steps out of his smooth jazz vernacular to burn on flute and sax as does guitarist Melvin Sparks. But the master chef is Earland who cooks as well as holding together a funky jazz set.
