O’s Notes: Monty (p) performs in a trio format with bassist Hassan J.J. Wiggins Shakur and Mark Taylor on drums. He looks at the trio as a format requiring intimacy and cooperation between players. These guys are not strangers, having played together on and off since the 1980s. The music is divided into 5 sections starting with some blues including a stirring rendition of “El Aranjuez con tu amor”. There are reflections on Nat King Cole and Duke Ellington, 3 pieces from the Caribbean and “I’m An Old Cowhand” with the western feel. The trio swings pretty good.
