O’s Notes: Guitarist Paul Renz leads a quintet with Eric Graham (b), Anders Bostrom (fl), Brian Ziemniak (B3, p) and Nathan Fryett (d). They open with the title track, a tune that allows each of the musicians to put a stamp on the piece. “On the Move” has more of a blues feel courtesy of the organ and absence of the flute. “Bluesing” lives up to it’s name and gets us patting our feet! Bostrom comes on strong on “Take It Home” a combo with the B3 that works well. Renz steps up on “I Don’t Know Why I’m Glad” and teams with Bostrom for “Off The Cuff” the best track of the session. Like a live set, the band got better with each tune capturing our attention early and keeping us engaged to the end leaving us satisfied and ready for an encore.
