O’s Notes: Drummer, vibraphonist, composer Ches Smith expanded his trio to include guitarist Bill Frisell on Interpret It Well, his latest release. Matt Maneri (viola) and Craig Taborn (p) round out the band. The musicians have excellent interplay allowing each other to surface at the right time and bringing harmony to seemingly random musings. Highlights are “Mixed Metaphor”, “Clear Major” and the title track. Audio quality is great, and the CD also comes with an 11”x17” poster of the cover art by Raymond Pettibon!
