O’s Notes: Ken (b cl, sax) makes his debut as a leader with an amalgamation that has elements of rock, avant-garde and jazz-fusion. But the bulk is done in a quiet more subdued manner almost like chamber music. The band is Russ Johnson (t), Nir Felder (g), Adam Armstrong (b), Fred Kennedy (d) and Thomson. “No, no, no” was quite a production, an introspective ballad around a cool solo by Kennedy. There are more exhilarating movements like “Goddamn You Ice Cream Truck” and the intriguing “Wanderangst”. But they return to tranquility on the title track wrapping up a wide array of moods composed and presented by Thomson.
