O’s Notes: Native Jamaican, Monty Alexander (p) gives us a full dose of the West Indian Carnival feel with Jamboree. Othello Molineaux and Len “Boogsie” Sharpe play the steel drums; Marshall Wood and Bernard Montgomery play bass; and Robert Thomas Jr. and Marvin “Smitty” Smith play drums. The groove feels good, especially on the swinging “Think Twice”. Monty wrote half of the ten tracks and they all sound contemporary. There is a lot of productive banging going on here. SACD brings us the most natural sounding steel drums to date.
