O’s Notes: Jazz from the Soul of New Orleans is a proper description for the swinging set arranged by clarinetist Dr. Michael White. The program is a balanced mix of ragtime classics and fresh originals by White that are cut from the same fabric. The music includes upbeat bouncy swingers like “Martinique”; a few religious tunes like “If We Ever Need Jesus”, and the lazy groove of “Late Night Blues”. Their improvisations change each time they perform based on their feel and the audience interaction. White and his band capture a slice of the soul of New Orleans.
