O’s Notes: The brass is large, warm, melodic and dynamic, all the right superlatives for a large ensemble! The musicians are all left coast talent and they are well oiled. The thirteen selections were arranged by Ray Brown who leads this big band to make great music. Ray’s brother Steve Brown (g) and Mary Ferrig (sax) take the lead with strong solos on “Indian Summer”. We also enjoyed the power of five trombonists playing on “Blue Daniel”. These are just a couple if the many strong selections in this well-recorded set. The mood is happy and the spirit is bright pitting a smile on our face.
