O’s Notes: Pianist Ron Rieder leads a vibrant band on Latin Jazz Sessions, a cool set of 10 songs. They set the stage with “Un Coco Loco” featuring saxophonist Mike Tucker, moving to mellow tunes like “From Dawn to Dusk”, “Samba Felez”, and “Gardenias” featuring Fernando Brandão on flute. We also enjoyed “Mambo Jumbo”, the swinging “St. John”, and “Pescado” with a fine bass solo from Gerson Lazo-Quiroga. Percussionist Ricardo Monzon, and drummer Mark Walker are lively all the way through with guest Ron Reid on steel drums appearing on two selections to infuse a solid Latin foundation.
