O’s Notes: Percussionist, composer Ches Smith blends jazzy, electronic rhythms with chamber music in a somewhat disoriented approach on Laugh Ash. Shara Lunon adds vocals and spoken word to add some clarity as on “Sweatered Webs”. There are eight additional artists including James Brandon Lewis (t-sax) and Nate Wooley (t), that join them for an eclectic performance. It’s different but catchy. “Shaken, Stirred Silence”, “Winter Spring”, and “Disco Inferred” are among the best.
