O’s Notes: Alan is romancing us with his silky baritone on this collection of bluesy ballads. He’s backed by Arcoiris Sandoval (p), Marty Kenney (b), Irwin Hall (sax, fl), and Norman Edwards Jr. (d). The place is the Blue Llama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor, MI. It was deemed a perfect spot to re-emerge post pandemic. They are all on their games, fueled by the enthusiasm of an audience that’s also happy to be out! Harris is a passionate storyteller and Hall coaxes even more from him on songs like “Jeannine” and “Spain”. Sandoval sets the mood for “The Very Thought of You” before they swing hard on “So What”. This one made us wish we were there for the live experience!
