O’s Notes: Venerable saxophonist George Coleman joins the SmallsLIVE Living Masters Series with a live session recorded March 2022. He’s in rare form swinging through eight classics including his own “Blues For Smalls”. The quartet is Peter Washington (b), Spike Wilner (p), George on tenor, and producer Joe Farnsworth (d). “At Last” and “My Funny Valentine” are notable in the mixed tempo set. The musicians are in sync with the audience and their solos come alive around the 87-year-old Coleman who plays like he’s in his prime years!
