O’s Notes: Douglas plays piano and leads a large ensemble bursting with energy. This is a swinging session with all of the pomp of an old time big band. Some of the best tunes are “Splanky” featuring Galen Green (sax), “Funk Junction” and “One O’Clock Jump”. They vary the tempo from relaxed 77 bpm ballads to the blistering pace of “Shorty George” at 212 bpm. The session was recorded live in Vancouver during 2008. There was a buzz in the crowd for a good reason.
