O’s Notes: Guitarist Doug MacDonald recorded Live In Hawaii pre-pandemic at The Atherton Studio, Hawaii Public Radio in Honolulu, November 9, 2019. His quartet is unique using vibraphonist Noel Okimoto instead of the standard pianist, with Dean Tabs (b) and Darryl Pellegrini (d). The configuration works well on 7 tracks, mostly standards with two originals, “Cat City Samba” and “Bossa Dan” showing MacDonald’s affinity for Brazilian music.
