O’s Notes: This trio: Jim Black (d), Mark Dresser (b) and Fujii on piano have been together for a magical seven years. We say magical because it is with this experience that they play intuitively off of each other. In the realm of free jazz, this can make a difference between brilliance and noise. Fujii’s husband, Natsuki Tamura (t) rounds out the quartet adding a bit more color to this live set from 2004 in Japan. There are four Fujii originals plus a lot of creativity adding up to a winning session.
