O’s Notes: Live from a small, smoky club, La Fidula in Madrid! This is another excellent video performance from View Video with super close-ups capturing all of Christian’s emotion and enthusiastic playing. He’s like a little kid on Christmas when he’s playing! His accompaniment Horacio Icasto (p), Santiago Reyes (g), Noah Shaye (d) and Victor Merlo (b) are all first class as well. Howe plays his violin combining speedy bluegrass techniques with jazzy rhythms. They open blazing on “I’ve Found A New Baby”. You’re right there with the audience enjoying every minute. They slow down a notch swinging on “Waltz For Katherine” and “Song For My Daughter”. “Madrid Blues” and “I Got Rhythm” are also there. They change up with a ton of emotion on “Audios Nonino”, a dramatic Spanish piece. We had to stop writing to look and listen repeatedly and we enjoyed it several times and will again.
