O’s Notes: Live In Tompkins Square Park is a 70- minute, free-jazz explosion capturing Steve’s band, The Purple Why performing in New York’s bohemian East Village during 1967, the Summer of Love. It sounds like they started recording when they were tuning up on the first couple of selections. Anything goes in such a chaotic approach until they got warmed up on the third track, “Land”. 12 of 13 selections are Tintweiss originals with drummer Randy Kaye adding “To Angel With Love”. The meat of the performance is spot on for free jazz lovers.
