O’s Notes: Eric Wyatt extracts a robust tone from his tenor saxophone with a style that draws elements from Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon. Benito Gonzalez (p), Kenyon Harold (t), Eric Wheeler (b) and Shinnosuke Takahashi (d) are his supporting musicians some of whom appear regularly with Wyatt on the New York jazz scene. Eric not only shines on the burners but also on ballads like “A Psalm for Phennie” and “Tenderly” where he puts his soul into the mix. Eric plays soprano sax and picks up the mic for “My Favorite Things” along with Andrea Miller adding yet another dimension. The program bounces back and forth from hard bop to rich ballads for a good listening experience.
