O’s Notes: Pianist Joan Stiles has succeeded in assembling a dream band including Clark Terry (t), Frank Wess (t sax), Joe Temperley (b sax), Warren Vaché (t), John Webber (b) and Greg Hutchinson (d). Stiles shows her skills and the influence of Monk with nice arrangements on several tunes. The set is characterized by warm brass and a swinging, relaxed pace. The solos are unique refreshments to classic tunes like “Tea For Two” and “Take The A Train”. Joan teaches at the Manhattan School of Music and she’s also a strong performer.
