O’s Notes: Maetar is an atypical jazz trio configuration featuring Itai Disraeli (b), Hagai Lev-Shalem Izraeli (t, perc), and Richard Fultineer (d). There are two discs on their Ropeadope debut. The first, Love Dub is rather eclectic. “That Maetar Sound” is more mainstream as is the title track with Izraeli playing flumpet, and “After All”. The second disc, The Abstract One Drop is calm, reflective, background music aside from Klezmer inspired “Goat Milk”, and our favorite, the funky “Pointing At The Moon”. They touch a wide range of genres in a laid-back presentation that is all original, free-form improvisation.
