O’s Notes: Chet was one of the masters of left coast cool jazz, a swinging bop that was well suited to the Pacific side of the USA. Baker’s warm trumpet tone is very easy to embrace. He fell prey to narcotics along with several other musicians of the time but not without some incredible performances. These five classics are strong evidence of that fact and all are good! Chet even adds vocals and scatting on “Oh, You Crazy Moon”.
