O’s Notes: Anaïs Reno is a protege, only 16 when she recorded Lovesome Thing in 2020 for her debut, supported by bandleader, arranger and pianist Emmet Cohen. She focuses on the Ellington/Strayhorn songbook for program material. Reno has the skills and confidence to sing up front, with minimal accompaniment. Her voice is full, rich and pleasing. She revisits jazz classics like “Caravan”, “Lush Life” and “Mood Indigo”. Bassist Russell Hall opens “I’m Just A Lucky So And So” then joined by Reno, drummer Kyle Poole, and Cohen. Anaïs sings blues and ballads straight from her heart, easily exceeding the maturity of her youth!
