O’s Notes: Pianist Frank Kimbrough forms a trio with Palmetto label mates Ben Allison (b) and Matt Wilson (d). They have a wealth of experience playing together in multiple configurations. Most of the ten songs are originals composed by Frank. They play around central themes with generous arrangements that allow each of the musicians to improvise freely. The tone is mellow and relaxed on most tracks but “Whirl” and “Fu Bu” are upbeat and bubbly.
