O’s Notes: Vocalist Lauren Scales makes her debut on Many Rivers sharing billing with co-producers, pianist Chris Grasso and alto saxophonist Mike Flanagan. They all shine brightly on this encounter. Luques Curtis (b), and either drummer Richie Barshay or Charles Haynes round out fine accompaniment, and Steve Davis adds trombone on “You Know Who”. “Star Eyes”, “Spanish Joint”, and “But Beautiful” are examples of Scales’ versatility. We hope this headlining trio stays engaged for a while!
