O’s Notes: Pianist, vocalist and producer Champian Fulton leads a trio with Hide Tanaka (b) and Fukushi Tainaka (d) for Meet Me at Birdland, her new album. Fulton is celebrating 20 years of performances at Birdland, where she performs regularly! Champian’s work on piano is as glorious as her warm vocals. We liked the bouncy swing of “Evenin’”, “Happy Camper”, and “I Didn’t Mean A Word I Said”. All had that classic jazz feel.
