O’s Notes: This is a step into world music with Iranian guitarist-singer Pouya Mahmoodi. He wrote each of the eleven tracks. Negar Rostami Nejad (violin, vocals), Muhammad Reza Asghari (keyboards) and Sam Plvnd (perc) are vital pieces of his band with Billiy Cobham (d) appearing on a couple of tunes. They get a little funky on “Niayesh” and then gradually move towards a mellower mood with “Dingomaro”. The upbeat tracks have a punchy bottom with gentle vocal tracks. They combination works well. The overall feel is somewhat exotic, Eastern/Indian blended with pop. We liked the peaceful blends of violin in “Sare Koohe Boland” and the punchy blues on “Me Va To”.
