O’s Notes: Beat Funktion is a Swedish sextet with Karl Olandersson (t), Olle Thundtrom (sax), Johan Oijen (g), Daniel Lantz (keyboards), Pal Johnson (b) and Jon Eriksson (d). There are additional musicians but these are the core who lay down funky grooves and catchy riffs. The sound is retro-1970s funk that feels fresh today. We found ourselves listening to this one over and again, a sure sign of hooks that sink in!
