O’s Notes: Guitarist Gary Lucas presents Fleischerei, Music From Max Fleischer Cartoons, the likes of Betty Boob and Popeye! He enlists the support from a star studded cast that includes trombonist Joe Fiedler, Jeff Lederer on sax and bassist Michael Bates. Sarah Stiles is the featured vocalist who recreates the voices of Betty Boop and Olive Oil originally performed by Mae Questal. The magic unveils itself in the lyrics that contain an assortment of hidden messages, many that I missed as a child. There are political stabs, sexual innuendos and loads of jokes for the. kids and the parents. The music ranges from klezmer to country to pop to straight ahead jazz. The thirteen songs take us on a retro trip that is memorable.
