O’s Notes: Aubrey Dayle was born in Jamaica and immigrated to Canada as a child with his family. They faced a life where they continuously struggled to fit in. In the liner notes Dayle says “My ID: (is) the conscious musical illumination of my instinctual needs and drives”. The music is Fusion underscored with Afro-centric, urban beats and some spoken word. You feel the struggle in the music and hear about the confrontations in the lyrics. Dayle plays keyboards, drums and speaks. He is supported by a wide range of musicians including Jason Crosby (violin), Vernon Reid (g), Ron Jackson (g) and Damon Banks (b). We liked the Asian infused “Kai”, pulsating beats of “Escape” and the wisdom of “It’s All Good”.
