O’s Notes: Mythologies II is a follow up of 2021’s Grammy winning volume. Composer, percussionist Danaë Xanthe Vlasse enlists vocalists Sangeeta Kaur (soprano), Hilá Plitmann (soprano), and Omar Najmi (tenor) with pianist Robert Thies and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The music is operatic, with vocals that speak of the opera. The core of this session is the story of Andromeda, the Greek beauty who was nearly sacrificed to a sea monster before being saved by Perseus. They married and live eternally as a constellation. The vocal harmonies are rich and worthy of a repeat award. It is not jazz, but we enjoyed it nevertheless.
