O’s Notes: Alto saxophonist and composer Nick Biello continues to develop his voice while maintaining a strong presence on the NYC jazz scene. His latest album, New America is very engaging. Biello gets support from George Colligan (p), Alex Tremblay (b), Peter Kronreif (d), and Charlie Porter (t). They swing hard on the opener “Bel Canto” before establishing a strong mid-tempo groove on “Queen Of Jordan”. They burn on “Slightly Perilous” featuring Porter, Colligan, and Kronreif, then simmering on “Before The Flood” and “A Long Way To You” before the cool closing title track.
