O’s Notes: French vocalist, pianist Marina Pacowski is now based in Los Angeles where she jazzes up the local scene. New Jazz Standards, Vol. 7 is a tribute to the late, great, trumpeter Carl Saunders. Pacowski has a soft, youthful voice with nasal tones that is even more expressive when she’s scatting. She’s surrounded by a strong team that includes Roy McCurdy (d), Josh Nelson (p), Ron Stout (t), and Larry Koonse (g). Bassist John Clayton shines on “Feels Like Home”, special guests Ken Peplowski (cl) and vocalist John Proulx join the team on “Sweet Talk”, and Ricky Woodard stands out on “Can You Dig Being Dug?”.
