O’s Notes: If you want to capture the true spirit of New Orleans, pre-Katrina, this is the ticket. Luther Kent belts out the vocals on “All On a Mardi Gras Day”, just one of twelve classics. Other favorites are “Mardi Gras Mambo” and “Saints”. This recording was completed just a few days before the hurricane hit. Producer, arranger and trombonist Brian O’Neil died during a performance at the Plimsoll Club shortly after the final touches were made and this recording is a fitting tribute to him.
