O’s Notes: Trombonist Noah Bless leads the charge on New York Strong – Latin Jazz! showcasing warm, rich tones. The music is a festive, danceable combination of Latin beats that swings. There is fine work by pianist Mike Eckroth on “Chasing Normal”. We enjoyed the syncopated rhythms of “Canta de Osanha” with percussionist Luisito Quintero and drummer Paulo Bencid. We also appreciated the contribution from bassist Boris Zozlov, notably on “Sunny Ray”. Bless breathes romance on “Ligia”, and strong energy on ”Ganga” keeping the vibe fresh across eight tracks.
